Europeans are known for their love for raves. Though there isn’t exactly a “party animal gene,” it just so coincidentally happens that some of their ancestors in the Bronze Age got high on hallucinogens in their own “secret” club — inside a cave! But they didn’t exclusively get high on psychedelics for the sheer purpose of achieving a euphoric state.Cave raves: apparently, one Bronze Age bonding activity was getting high on hallucinogens! In Menorca — a Spanish island that’s situated in the Mediterranean Sea — lies a cave (that was only discovered by spelunkers in 1995) called Es Càrritx. Since its discovery, various archeologists have wanted to see what was inside it. There, they found over 200 individuals who once inhabited the cave. Naturally, the scientists were in awe of what they found. Not only did the archeologists view the remains of people who lived a long time ago (approximately 2,800-3,000 years ago), but they also found sealed containers that had strands of hair — that ha...Katherine Loarie Pronounced Dead, Three Others Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash on State Route 62 [Palo Alto, CA]

By Ivana Kottasová | CNNScientists have found thriving communities of coastal creatures, including tiny crabs and anemones, living thousands of miles from their original home on plastic debris in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch — a 620,000 square mile swirl of trash in the ocean between California and Hawaii. In a new study published in the Nature Ecology & Evolution journal on Monday, a team of researchers revealed that dozens of species of coastal invertebrate organisms have been able to survive and reproduce on plastic garbage that’s been floating in the ocean for years. The scientists said that the findings suggest plastic pollution in the ocean might be enabling the creation of new floating ecosystems of species that are not normally able to survive in the open ocean.Unlike organic material that decomposes and sinks within months or, at most, a few years, plastic debris can float in the oceans for a much longer time, giving creatures the opportunity to survive and...Soul star Erykah Badu brings Unfollow Me Tour to 4 California cities

Published Fri, 22 Nov 2024 09:15:56 GMT
There’s a mysterious, otherworldly feel to Southern Oregon’s Crater Lake National Park. This gem-like lake, nestled high in the Cascade Range, is the deepest lake in North America — 1,943 feet — and is famous for its intensely blue waters. It formed 7,700 years ago when Mount Mazama, a 12,000-foot-tall volcano, experienced the largest eruption in North America in the past 640,000 years and subsequently collapsed, forming a volcanic caldera, which then began to fill with rainfall and snowmelt. There’s no natural outlet for Crater Lake’s water, yet it never completely fills up. The lake loses water, as it seeps out of the old volcano’s outer slopes at a slow but steady rate, like a porous paper coffee filter. It’s considered the cleanest large body of water in the world and holds a whopping 4.9 trillion gallons of water.Sunrise illuminates the top of Wizard Island at Oregon’s Crater Lake.
