Jay Ashcroft wins latest legal fight over restoration of abortion rights in Missouri

ST. LOUIS - Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft won his latest legal fight over a proposed ballot initiative to restore abortion rights in the state.According to our partners at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Columbia Attorney Jeffrey Basinger filed a lawsuit in August of last year alleging that Ashcroft was illegally refusing to process the initiative. Basinger wanted it on the November 2024 ballot. Search for gunman after Ferguson police chief’s niece killed Ashcroft said he would not begin certifying the proposed constitutional amendment until after the November 2022 election. In a unanimous decision, the Missouri Court of Appeals agreed with Ashcroft, saying ballot initiatives can only be processed during the election cycle during which they will be used.Basinger said he would appeal the decision.

Keeler: Will Deion Sanders fix CU Buffs football? Heck yeah, his mentor says. Here’s why. “Can’t fake winning. Can’t fake toughness.”

BOULDER — One question, Mickey Andrews. Just one. Is this thing gonna work?“He told me when they started their offseason program,” Andrews, one of Deion Sanders’ oldest and most beloved mentors, recalled by phone when I asked about the 2023 Buffs. “He told me, ‘Coach, there’s just not many guys out here that show they want to win bad enough.’“You can’t fake winning. It’s just like toughness. Can’t fake toughness. Either you’ve got it or you don’t.”Andrews thinks CU gets there under Coach Prime. Eventually.“I’m anxious to see how that bunch does,” the former Florida State defensive coordinator, 81 years young, continued.“You know (Sanders) is working his heinie off to make sure those guys represent Colorado in the right kind of way. And it hasn’t been that way lately.”The honeymoon either crashes to a halt Saturday or goes straight into orbit. The Coach Prime Era starts as a 20-point road dog at No. 17 TCU. This story could go in about 14 different directions, and anybody who t...

In better place mentally, Randy Gregory is ready to help Broncos defense reach new heights: “How can someone that big be that quick and strong?”

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 05:05:32 GMT

Randy Gregory has more to give. He doesn’t need to be reminded of that. The 30-year-old edge rusher knows he has never played a full season in his career and that a knee injury limited him to six games in 2022 after the Broncos gave him a five-year, $70 million contract. For Gregory to make good on Denver’s investment, he must win the battle within. Yes, Gregory’s physical health is essential to staying on the field and being the electrifying pass rusher who’s impressed teammates and head coach Sean Payton. But he knows the mental aspect will allow him to handle the ups and downs of an NFL season.Entering Year 2 in the Mile High City, Gregory believes he is in the right headspace to help a formidable defense reach another level.“Everyone is tied up on the physical, (but) the biggest thing for me this offseason was getting the mental (aspect) down,” Gregory said. “Being able to fight those little mental battles. You are going to have bad plays, (so) put them behind you and move o...

Coach Prime, Rams and Mines, oh my! How to plan perfect Colorado college football road trip for 2023, week by week.

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 05:05:32 GMT

If Coach Prime has you thinking that Boulder, and not Athens, Ga., is the epicenter of the college football universe, he might not be wrong. But the potential narratives around the Front Range run wilder than Ralphie at full tilt. Within 75 miles of downtown Denver, you can watch Deion Sanders in person (for a price), the defending Division II national runners-up and more live mascots per capita than an Animal Planet marathon.Heck, if you wanted to plan a road trip of just Front Range games between now and Thanksgiving, there’s something for just about everybody each and every week. Want to check out the reigning winner of the Harlon Hill Trophy, the Division II Heisman? Mines quarterback John Matocha is back slinging it in Golden. Dig trophy games? CSU is playing in two of them over back-to-back weekends. To that end, the Denver Post sports staff has laid out a planner for a drivable 2023 college football tour of Front Range games over the next few months — although with a couple of ...

Opinion: California infertility-treatment bill enables family dreams

My diagnosis with breast cancer at the age of 30 shattered my world. It challenged my sense of who I was and who I was becoming. I was young, newly married, healthy (I thought) and ambitious — in other words, thriving — and planning for the future. In fact, at the time of my diagnosis, my husband and I had just started thinking about trying for a baby.My breast cancer diagnosis was triple-negative invasive ductal carcinoma — a particularly fast-growing and aggressive type. On top of that, I carry a BRCA1 mutation, which puts me at very high risk for breast and ovarian cancer. This genetic legacy was why my father, as a young person, watched his mother die of breast cancer and witnessed his aunt and grandmother suffer through it.Our family-building hopes were put on hold as I stepped back from work and underwent 16 months of cancer treatment: 26 rounds of chemotherapy, four surgeries, six visits to the emergency room and hundreds of doctor appointments in between.Fo...
