If you just can’t get Roy Orbison’s signature tune out of your head and you have a nostalgic sweet spot for the blockbuster 1990 movie, you too may find yourself inescapably drawn to “Pretty Woman: The Musical,” which plays through the weekend in San Jose and returns to San Francisco next month.Trust me, you may want to fight this urge. Now, I’m not suggesting that the iconic Julia Roberts star vehicle was a cinematic masterpiece a la Bergman but it had more than enough sass and charm to make up for what it may have lacked in class and gender sensitivity. At least for me, the dazzling Roberts seem to radiate chutzpah and she and Richard Gere generated tingly, off-the-charts chemistry. It was impossible to fight the urge to ship them as a couple.I also loved the fact that Gere’s corrupt Wall Street raider character, Edward Lewis, learned how to be less morally bankrupt from a Hollywood sex worker, Vivian Ward. The greedy fat cat decides to stop slashing and burning whole industries for...Pac-12 football: What to watch during spring practice

For several Pac-12 teams, spring practice began weeks ago. Some are just underway. Others won’t start for a few more weeks. But in every case, the spring games (i.e., gloried scrimmages) are scheduled for the second half of April. The Hotline has questions about them all.(Note: Listed in chronological order of spring games, and alphabetically. Dates for spring games are tentative.)ArizonaNewcomer to watch: LB Justin Flowe (from Oregon)QB1 status: It’s Jayden de Laura’s job to lose, and he won’t.Outlook: The Wildcats lost gifted receiver Dorian Singer to the transfer portal but have far more holes to fill on defense. The unit struggled last season (6.6 yards-per-play allowed) and is relying on newcomers like Flowe, a former blue-chip recruit, to upgrade the situation. We are particularly intrigued by the defensive line, where several transfers could lock down rotation spots. But most of the questions (culture, philosophy, quarterback hierarchy) associated with ...With Trump in trouble, GOP invokes Soros to steer narrative

By Ali Swenson | Associated PressNEW YORK — As former President Donald Trump braces for a potential indictment related to hush money payments made on his behalf during his 2016 campaign, Republicans blasting the case as politically motivated are blaming a frequent target: George Soros. The 92-year-old billionaire investor and philanthropist — who has been falsely accused of everything from hiring violent rioters to committing election crimes — doesn’t know and didn’t donate directly to the New York prosecutor steering the probe. But that hasn’t stopped Trump and other high-profile Republicans from accusing Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who convened the grand jury investigating Trump, of acting on Soros’ behalf.Trump on Monday used his Truth Social platform to misleadingly claim that Bragg “received in EXCESS OF ONE MILLION DOLLARS” from Soros. Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance tweeted that the prosecutor was “bought by George Soros.” Flor...Storm kills 5 in San Francisco Bay Area
